Application for designation as a Federal Enterprise Zone. The Commission may, if appropriate, make application to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, or, as necessary, any other federal agency, to designate all or a portion of Devens as an enterprise zone, pursuant to 42 U.S.C. subsection 11501 et seq., as amended, or any existing or successor statute of similar import, for the purposes of creating jobs in the Devens Region of the Commonwealth and encouraging the economic redevelopment of Devens.
